Field notes on film photography, long walks and slow travel.
After a year of sending rolls to the lab I finally set up a small darkroom corner in the bathroom. The kit is modest: a two-reel tank, a changing bag, a thermometer and three bottles. The first roll came out thin, the second was fine, and by the fifth the routine felt as calm as making coffee.
Six days, around a hundred and forty kilometres, one pair of boots. Most of the path runs along low cliffs with a village every fifteen kilometres or so, which makes it easy to travel light. Notes on the route, where to stay and what I would pack differently.
Phone apps are good enough for most situations, but a small incident meter changed how I look at light in rooms and under trees. A few examples with the same scene metered three different ways.
